Study Programmes

The School of Drama has a range of programmes designed for people of different educational needs. These include the
Foundation Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BFA (Honours) Degree and Professional Diploma programmes.
The one-year Foundation Diploma programme educates the students in the basic discipline of the
theatrical profession and provides them with a general knowledge of the development of drama. Major study areas are Acting and Directing.

Students who successfully graduate from the
Foundation Diploma may be considered for entry to either the Advanced Diploma (two years further study) or BFA (Honours) Degree programme (three years further study). The Advanced Diploma is designed for those students who wish to have a full professional training for entry into either the Acting or Playwriting profession, and offers an intense practical training. The Degree programme, in which students specialise in Acting or Directing, offers the same professional elements and is also geared towards producing theatre practitioners as, combined with more in-depth theoretical and academic study. Candidates can also enter these programmes directly, if they possess the appropriate academic qualifications and have had some previous experience in Drama.
The Professional Diploma programme is a one-year programme of advanced study for those Advanced Diploma graduates who wish to have further and more in-depth study in Acting or Playwriting.

The three-year Degree programme is structured to produce professional practitioners with a vision of the arts in society, and a concern for their importance, relevance, and
development, and who are articulate in expressing how they are going to achieve their objectives as an artist in the community. To a rigorous regimen of practical work are added conceptually based studies. The
students acquire a far reaching knowledge of the development of drama, as well as theatre practice, both historical and contemporary, together with an appreciation of the performing arts in general. Major study areas are
Acting and Directing.

Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts (Drama)

The two-year Advanced Diploma programme is structured to balance practical study with basic theory, and prepare the students for a career in the
professional theatre, as well as film, radio, and television. Major study area is Acting.

Professional Diploma in Performing Arts (Drama)
|
The one-year Professional Diploma programme is offered to Advanced Diploma graduates and professional actors. Students at this level can be given more individual at tention and
the opportunity to mature and refine the skills they have learnt. The individuality of the actor can be nurtured, and a higher, professional level of accomplishment demanded. Major study area is Acting.
