The School of Drama is able to accommodate up to 22 new students each year.
Potential and enthusiasm for the theatre is looked for in the applicants. In addition, applicants should be able to speak fluent Cantonese and to read Chinese. Having satisfied the general entry requirements, applicants will be invited to attend a series of auditions and interview, the results of which will determine the applicants' suitability for admission.
Preliminary Audition (Normally in May or June)
Group warm-up exercise and theatre games
Presentation of one piece being the applicant's choice
A song of the applicant's choice
Critial writing on the spot (Directing major applicants only)
Second Audition (Usually 2 weeks later)
Presentation of one piece provided by the School
A mime scene
A one-minute present at ion of the applicant's choice, e.g. dance, song, combat, etc.
Group theatre games
Creative writing based upon a visual stimulus assigned on the spot (Directing major applicants only)
Final Interview (Usually 1 week later)
Discussion of the applicant's expectations and commitment to Drama studies
Non-Local Applicants
Non- local applicants who are unable to attend the preliminary audition at the Academy may submit a recently made DVD with a statement that it is the applicantˇ¦s own performance. The contents of the DVD must follow the above preliminary requirements except that all the pieces may be selected by the applicant.
Selected applicants will be invited to attend a second audition at the Academy. (The applicants must be responsible for their own travel expenditure and the application process of the Travel Permit, etc.) If the applicant cannot come to the second audition at the Academy, his / her application will not be given further consideration.
