Introduction

The School of Film and Television was established by the Academy in September 1996. The School aims to be a professional centre of excellence and to both reflect and influence existing practice in the local film and television industries.

The School offers a four-years Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) Degree programme in Film and Television with two specialist pathways and six major studies, and a more advanced two-years Master of Fine Arts in Film Production.

The programmes are designed to develop in the students high level filmic and televisual skills at the technical and craft level, as well as to nurture and encourage their creative and artistic development. They will also prepare them for work in a variety of different creative, technical and professional situations.

In particular the School aims to train the students to create as a team. Film and Television is about teamwork. The director is one of a team and so are producer, sound recordist and designer, editor, screenwriter, cinematographer and production designer, each making his/her own particular creative and technical contribution to the whole.
