Description:Instructors: FUNG Kwok-tung, TAM Yu-leung

A Cappella is an Italian phrase meaning "in the style of the chapel" but it generally refers to pieces of music sung without accompaniment. But if you expect to get entrapped in an endless version of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" in three-part canon, think again. A Cappella can be a lot of fun and full of surprises. It may comprise, for example, wordless melodies and harmonies, not unlike the syllables in the chorus of Lion King's "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", that goes "weee, we-um-um-a-way...wee-ooh wim-o-weh". A Cappella is often a cross-cultural, multiethnic experience, and can be used to interpret various styles of music, such as classical, jazz as well as pop and contemporary repertoires. These workshops will explore ways to make music of various styles using only voices, including classical instrumental music and pop music.

An A Cappella experience is always great because it gets a group of strangers singing and having fun together. There is a certain innate joy in singing together and there is a bit of a performer in everybody. Even if we do not want a solo spot, we want that chance to sing and create music together. The class will be learning different repertoire in different semesters of the year. Interested participants with two or more years of instrumental or vocal experience or above are welcome to join the doo-wop!
