The SMS is one of the most reputable musical theatre training programmes, offering both performing and backstage training. Students get hands-on experience to work at a professional theatre and study with renowned arts practitioners in Hong Kong. Its past successes include Annie, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The King and I, Grease, The Wizard of Oz, and the ground-breaking High School Musical in 2008.
SMS is more than a musical production. It is an acumination of effort, cooperation, and camaraderie of children and youth who are passionate about performing arts. The comprehensive training is led by experienced instructors who are skillful in bringing the best out of each student.

After the phenomenally successful 2008 SMS, EXCEL is working towards its 2009 SMS, featuring Disney's High School Musical 2 (subject to confirmation of license).
Schedule of the 2009 Summer School
Training & Rehearsals 23-24 May: Performers' audition 20 Jul - 6 Aug (Weeks 1 & 2): Rehearsals for Performers and training for backstage students 7 Aug - 9 Aug (Week 3): Rehearsal in Theatre and Performance

Course Fee: HK$3,700 (Performers) / HK$3,000 (Stage Management & Technical Arts Students)
Notes for Applicants: Applicants can either apply to be a performer or a theatre and entertainment arts (backstage) student.
An application fee of HK$80 will be levied. Applicants should credit the application fee to EXCEL's bank account (the Standard Chartered Bank 415-1-036162-3) and submit the proof of payment together with the application form. The application fee is not refundable.
Applicants should submit a cheque for the course fee ($3,700 for performers and $3,000 for theatre and entertainment arts students) together with the application form. Course fees will only be charged when an applicant successfully passes the audition or is selected. Cheques for course fees from unsuccessful applicants will be returned.
Applicants are required to submit the following documents to EXCEL, 1 Gloucester Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong, on or before 9 May 2009: - Completed application form (please refer to page 145 of this prospectus) - A headshot photograph - Proof of payment of the application fee of HK$80 - Cheque for course fees (made payable to EXCEL) - Backstage applicants need to submit a 150-word essay to briefly describe your expectations for joining our 2009 SMS
Performer candidates will be invited to a group audition on 23 May 2009 (Saturday) and 24 May 2009 (Sunday). Candidates may be called back for a final round of audition on 31 May 09 (Sunday). Audition details will be announced via email in due course.
Theatre and entertainment arts (backstage) candidates will be selected by the Production Team Instructors and the Team will allocate the selected students into different streams, including Lighting, Sound, Stage Management, Costume, Make-up & Image and Set & Props. No audition is required for backstage students.
The audition results for performers and the selection results for theatre and entertainment arts (backstage) students will be announced via email on or before 8 June 2009. No refund of course fees will be made once an applicant is accepted to the course. The cheques for course fees from unsuccessful applicants will be returned on or before 8 July 2009 by mail.
