Description:The Juilliard School International Masterclass Series at the Academy in June will celebrate through music the 10th anniversary of the reunification of Hong Kong and China. By inviting students from the conservatories of Beijing and Shanghai to take part in these masterclasses with our local students, Hong Kong will join with greater China to share a common love of Western music. Hong Kong is perfectly positioned for the top teachers from New York's Juilliard School to work with Chinese music students, and all Hong Kong's music lovers will have a chance to attend this fascinating series of masterclasses. The Academy is grateful to Shun Hing Group and Home Affairs Bureau for their generous sponsorship for this project.

The masterclasses conducted by top teachers from New York's Juilliard School are open to observers. Performing participants will include students from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Central Conservatory of Music and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Outstanding performers will be selected to perform at the showcase concerts.

Dr Yoheved (Veda) Kaplinsky, Chairperson of the Piano Department at the Juilliard School, began her musical career as a prizewinner in the J S Bach International Competition in Washington. She has appeared throughout the United States as a recitalist, in chamber music concerts and with orchestras, including performances in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Washington. Noted for her insight and understanding of piano technique, Ms Kaplinsky has been in great demand for lectures and masterclasses in the States, Israel and the Far East. She has served on the faculties of the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and the Manhattan School of Music, and has been a member of the Juilliard piano faculty since 1993. She also teaches regularly at various summer festivals, including Bowdoin Summer Music Festival in Marine, the Aspen Music Festival, the Tel Hai International Masterclasses in Israel, the Texas Conservatory for Young Artists, Piano Texas in Fort Worth, and Pianofest in Long Island, New York. Ms Kaplinsky frequently adjudicates in international competitions, most recently the Cleveland, Rubinstein, Dublin, Van Cliburn and Tchaikovsky competitions. In 2003, she received the Presidential Scholars Teacher Recognition Award.

Hong Kong Ticketing will charge customer service fee payable upon purchase of tickets. This customer service fee is additional to face value of the ticket.
