its historical and contemporary context. The students will also address
the role of the artist in society and the meaning of their art in the wider
fields of human endeavour. Emphasis is placed on interaction between the
students' technical, interpretative, and creative skills on the one hand

Applicants with an Advanced Diploma awarded
by the Academy may apply for admission with advanced standing to the relevant
Bachelor Honours Degree programme and be granted credits by exemption for
some courses within the programme. Depending on their academic qualification
and professional experience, and the requirements of the programme concerned,
admitted applicants with an Advanced Diploma are normally allowed to complete
the Degree programme within a minimum period of one-and-a-half years.
Students in an Advanced Diploma programme who have not yet completed the
programme are not allowed to transfer to a Bachelor Honours Degree programme.
|
|
|
The two-year Advanced Diploma programmes
provide a completely integrated training to prepare and to qualify the students
for a professional career in their chosen art discipline. These programmes
are for those who have a Diploma but will not pursue further studies at
Degree level.
|
|
|
The requirements for
admission to the Advanced Diploma programmes are:
| (a) |
Grade E or above in 5 subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate
of Education Examination (HKCEE) including (i) Level 2 or above in
English Language or Grade E or above in English Language (Syllabus

Chinese Language or Grade E or above in Chinese Language (taken

|
| (b) |
A Diploma awarded by the
Academy or an equivalent qualification deemed acceptable

Academy. | |
|
|
The Professional Diploma
programmes are designed for those who already have an Advanced
Diploma or Degree and are seeking further professional
training in the performing or theatre and entertainment arts. The programmes are generally of one year's duration. In the School

students may be allowed to extend their studies to two

or
|
| (d) |

tertiary

| |
|
|
The School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts offers Advanced Certificate and Professional Certificate programmes which run parallel with the Advanced
Diploma and Professional Diploma programmes. Students will be
expected to pursue a full major performance study but the
requirements in the support and academic studies within the
programmes will be reduced in appropriate cases in the light
of previous accomplishment or preparation. These programmes
are designed particularly for non-local students.
In
addition, full-time and part-time Certificate and Advanced
Certificate programmes in Performing Arts (Cantonese Opera) are
offered in parallel to the Diploma and Advanced Diploma
programmes in Performing Arts (Cantonese Opera).
|
|
|
The Academy will consider
admission with advanced standing for applicants who have
satisfactorily completed relevant studies at an appropriate
level at a recognised institution elsewhere or at the Academy,
or who are in possession of significant professional
experience which the Academy judges to merit credits by
exemption in respect of some of the courses within the
programmes. The Academy may admit such applicants with
advanced standing and grant them credits by exemption for some
courses within the programmes, subject to the entry
requirements of the respective programmes being met and to the
regulations of the Academy on admission with advanced
standing.
Credits by exemption are normally granted for
not more than half of the total number of credits required for
graduation from the programme concerned. To be considered for
graduation, students admitted with advanced standing shall
have studied at the Academy for a minimum period which is
equivalent to half of the normal period of study for the
programme and have gained by study at the Academy at least
half of the total number of credits required for graduation. A
student admitted with advanced standing shall study on a
full-time basis unless special approval for otherwise is
granted by the Academy.
