Junior Music Programme

The Junior Music Programme at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts is known as one of the most comprehensive programmes of music instruction for talented young people in Hong Kong. It recognizes that musicians must begin to discipline themselves and their talents at an early age. The Programme is fully supported by the Academy and provides an atmosphere where artistic gifts and technical skills can flourish. The Programme emphasizes all-round musical training. In addition to individual instruction on the student's instrument, the curriculum includes musicianship classes and ensemble activities, and offers many opportunities for public performance. This training requires considerable devotion and seriousness by students dedicated to their study in music. Students who plan to pursue music training at tertiary level may gain direct entry to the second year of the Academy's Diploma programme after completing Form Five general education and Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. Aimed primarily at preparing talented students for admission to the Academy's tertiary programmes, the Junior Music Programme also encourages the participation of young people who are not necessarily seeking a professional career in music. Through early musical training, these individuals may gain the knowledge and skills to become appreciative audiences and amateur musicians of our future, and an understanding of the value of music in their lives. All Junior Music Department students are members of a unique artistic community. Support from fellow students and parents are encouraged throughout the Junior Music Programme.
