Renowned guzheng performer Xu Lingzi graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of music in 1983 and continued on to teach at the Conservatory for four years until her transferral to the Beijing Central Folk Orchestra as a soloist. She is acclaimed as a National Class One Performer in China, and has shared the stage with many orchestras including the Central Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Folk Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. She has given concerts and lecture-demonstrations in many countries in Europe, Asia and Canada, and has recorded extensively, including a guzheng solo album under the Polygram label. She has been teaching at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts since 1995.
