Grace Yu is a versatile figure in local and international music scenes. She is a researcher, pianist and conductor. A PhD candidate in music theory and a MM holder in piano performance at Indiana University, she received her BA (Hons) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her achievements in multiple areas of music is widely recognized, and she was a recipient of numerous awards and scholarships: full-fee graduate scholarship at Indiana University, Phi Kappa Lambda of the United States National Music Honors Society, Bernard Van Zuiden Overseas Performance Scholarship, Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship and others. Her research focuses on relationships between music and extramusical inspirations and she has presented papers and lecture-recitals at Canadian University Music Society and West Coast Conference of Music Theory and Analysis. She was an orchestral pianist for Bloomington Symphony Orchestra and Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. She has also conducted in the United States, Europe, and Asia and was selected to participate in prestigious orchestral conducting workshops, such as Conductors Institute of South Carolina and Repertoire Workshop of Symphonic Workshops Ltd.
