About the Programme

'Arts on the Doorstep' Artist-in-residence at Schools

Along with the 'Artist-in-residence' at schools, a one-day, whole-school performing arts event is organized at four participating schools in Sham Shui Po (Nam Wah Catholic Secondary School, St. Margaret's Co-educational English Secondary School, Chan Shu Kui Memorial School and Ying Wa Girls' School). Each school’s hall is transformed into theatre, classrooms into rehearsal studios, and playground into stage. Through performances, performing arts workshops and improvisational shows related to 'The Butterfly Lovers', resident artists consolidate students’ and teachers’ knowledge in performing arts, so as to broaden their horizons and give them inspirations. This aims to make performing arts more accessible by lowering the threshold for the arts and promoting an artistic atmosphere in schools and in the community.

'Arts at Morning' Assembly

At school morning assembly, the resident artists lead simple collective games and movement exercises as warm-ups, while demonstrating the body as a performer’s tool and medium. Briefing is conducted on the day’s activities.

Performing Arts Workshops

The workshops make use of the elements related to 'The Butterfly Lovers', e.g. characterization, scenarios, character images and subject matters. It also explores the possibilities of assimilating these elements into the school lessons.
