The School of Dance offers full-time programmes from sub-degree Diploma to MFA level, and a new doctoral degree (expected 2027), together with its part-time Gifted Young Dancer Programme. In keeping with its conservatoire status, the School’s philosophy is centred on performance practice and reflects the unique cultural mix of Hong Kong, emphasising both Chinese and Western traditions. Our graduates are versatile and work across genres/styles, media and forms; and the integration of core contextual knowledge and performance practice as theory and practice forms the uniqueness of the School’s programmes.

 

The postholder is responsible for supporting the Head of Choreography in the development and enhancement of the Choreography Major, with a strong emphasis on Dance & Technology, including curriculum design and delivery in areas such as Technology for Dance Composition, Multimedia & Dance, Screendance, Visual Design for Choreography, and Contemporary Art & Performance, from sub-degree to postgraduate levels. The appointee will teach and supervise courses that integrate digital tools, multimedia environments, and emerging technologies into choreographic practice, mentor and assess students’ creative and research projects, and contribute to the creation and presentation of technologically integrated productions and interdisciplinary performance works. The postholder is also responsible for providing administrative support to the management / School of Dance in the planning, scheduling and execution of programme work and activities, staff development and assessment, and the evaluation and ongoing enhancement of the Dance & Technology components of the choreography programme.

 

Applicants should have:
•    Advanced-level academic qualifications in dance, dance and technology, digital performance, or related disciplines (preferably with a postgraduate qualification); and normally a minimum of four years’ experience in teaching dance and technology/multimedia performance courses, including teaching at Undergraduate and Master’s level.
•    Proven experience in administrative/management of dance and technology, multimedia performance, screendance or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in dance and technology, supported by a strong portfolio of creative and/or research work in digital, interactive or interdisciplinary performance.
•    Solid understanding of contemporary dance creation practices and current developments in choreography, particularly in relation to multimedia, digital platforms, interactive systems and emerging technologies. Active engagement with innovative technological applications in dance will be an advantage.
•    Proven ability to be a team player and leader within a programme. Strong commitment to the scholarship of learning and teaching, as well as practice-based and technology-informed research.
•    Proven experience of integrating theory and practice within curriculum content and employing innovative teaching practices, including e-learning and digital pedagogy.
•    Experience in curriculum design and teaching in a multi-cultural context.
•    A good command of both written and spoken English. Fluency in Chinese (including Putonghua and Cantonese) is an advantage.

 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT 
Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement.  A gratuity payment may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The expected commencement date will be 24 August 2026.
