Reporting to the Assistant Librarian I (Systems), the postholder is required to assist in maintaining the integrated library system and other information systems of the Library. The postholder will be expected to provide IT support for library projects and services, assist with website and application program development as well as hardware and software support for library staff and users.  The successful candidate will also participate in the subject liaisons with Schools / Departments. The postholder might be required to work in the libraries at Wanchai and Bethanie campuses in evenings, on weekends and public holidays, and needs to be able to react immediately to urgent events outside normal office hours, such as system outage.

 

Applicants should:
(a) Have a recognised bachelor degree in computer science, information systems or related disciplines;
(b) Normally have a minimum of 3 years' working experience in systems supports and administrations;
(c) Have working knowledge of web application development and maintenance using HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Perl, PHP, MySQL, Oracle, etc;
(d) Have experience in managing Windows and Linux operating systems; and servers with VMware virtual machines; 
(e) Have good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; and
(f) Be attentive to details and an active participant in a team.

 

Preference will be given to those who have working experience in academic libraries, the knowledge of Alma Library System, Primo Discovery Platform and EZproxy, and the knowledge in library standards, such as MARC, Dublin Core and OAI-PMH.

 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement.  A gratuity payment equals up to 10% of the total basic salary earned during the contract period may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period.  The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Academy’s contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, equals 10% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.    Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits.  Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
