LIBRARY ASSISTANT II
The postholder reports to Assistant Librarian I (Technical Services). He/She will assist in maintaining the Library’s electronic collections including liaising with journal suppliers regarding renewal and payment, maintain budget and usage as well as bibliographic record update. He/She will support in promotion of library resources and services by creating graphics and videos for use in social media channels. The postholder will be required to perform regular and shift duties in at the circulation counter in both libraries at the Wanchai and Bethanie campuses in the evenings, on weekends and public holidays.
Applicants should:
(a) Possess a higher diploma or associate degree or above. Preference will be given to those who completed programmes related to Library and Information management or Design or Media Communication; OR
(b) Possess 5 passes in HKCEE including English (at least Grade C if Syllabus A/Level 2 from 2007) OR at least Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics AND a recognised certificate for library assistants with at least 2 years’ work experience;
(c) Knowledge in using a library system and experience in maintaining print, media resources and serial collection;
(d) Have good command of spoken and written English and Chinese including Putonghua;
(e) Be creative, with a good sense in graphic design and video editing; and
(f) Knowledge on video-editing and experience of using social media for promotion purposes.
Preference will be given to those who have:
(a) Previously worked in an academic library, or high educational institution.
(b) Have experience using graphic design and video editing packages, e.g. Canva, Photoshop, iMovie, PowerDirect, VideoStudio.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be on a two-year contract with the possibility of renewal. A gratuity payment equal up to 10% of basic salary earned during the contract period will be payable upon satisfactory completion of contract. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
