Dr Stephen Chow Chun-kay Appointed as New Academy Council Chairman

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (the Academy) welcomes the appointment of Dr Stephen Chow Chun-kay as the new Council Chairman of the Academy by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR government with effect from 1 January 2016. The Academy extends its heartfelt thanks to Mr William Leung Wing-cheung who had dedicated his time and effort to lead the Academy as Council Chairman over the past six years.   

 

Dr Stephen Chow Chun-kay obtained his PhD degree in Business and Economics from the University of Hong Kong. Dr Chow has been Chairman of the Executive Committee of the government’s Cantonese Opera Development Fund and founding Chairman of the government’s Cantonese Opera Advisory Committee. He has devoted himself to the preservation and sustainable growth of Cantonese opera. In addition, Dr Chow’s expertise has been sought by a number of education institutions in Hong Kong, the Mainland and the United States, and has held leadership and advisory roles in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Lingnan University, Fudan University in Shanghai and Golden Gate University in California, among others. In recognition of his significant contributions to the Academy and to the community, Dr Chow was conferred Honorary Doctorate by the Academy in 2012, and was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2008, the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2002, in addition to being appointed Justice of the Peace by the Hong Kong government in 2004.
