The 2nd Academy Festival (April – July 2018) - An Annual Performing Arts Showcase

3 Apr 2018

The 2nd Academy Festival, presented by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), will be held from April to early July this year. The first Academy Festival held last year was successfully organised and received positive feedback from the public. With more than 50 performing arts events in a span of three months, the Festival aims to showcase the talents and vitality of students of the Academy. Some programmes offer free admission to members of the public.

The 2nd Academy Festival presents a series of enriching and diversified programmes, featuring works of students from the Academy’s six Schools, namely Chinese Opera, Dance, Drama, Film and Television, Music, and Theatre and Entertainment Arts. The School of Dance Graduation Performances to be held on 27 April will be the opening event of the Festival and other programmes include drama, concerts, Cantonese opera, exhibitions and film screenings.

"This year, the Academy is delighted to present its second Academy Festival. Again, it aims to showcase the talents of Academy students through a series of engaging performances featuring dance, music, Chinese opera and drama complemented by captivating film screenings and exhibitions. As supported by the Home Affairs Bureau, the Academy also plays an important role in enriching the cultural life and landscape of the Hong Kong community. I hope the Festival will help encourage more members of the public to join us to appreciate and enjoy the richness and beauty of performing arts. My heartfelt thanks also go to all our Academy staff members and students for their efforts in presenting the 2nd Festival to the public.” Professor Adrian Walter, Director of the Academy remarked.

“The Academy Festival is a lively bridge where our young talents and members of the Hong Kong community meet. The 2nd edition promises to be another year of creative expressions and productions. It features ballet, Chinese dance and contemporary dance; Chinese opera excerpts ranging from traditional repertoire to adapted works; concerto performances by our Academy Symphony Orchestra and student soloists; a series of film screenings; a drama performed by students and alumna Ms Alice Lau; innovative immersive theatre in which the audience is free to roam about the ‘stage’, and more,” said Professor Samuel Leong, Deputy Director (Academic) of the Academy and Chairman of the Academy Festival Organising Committee.
