HKAPA and HKDance sign MOU on Strategic Collaboration in Nurturing Professional Chinese Dance Talents for Hong Kong

The Launch Ceremony for the 40th Anniversary of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Ends on a High Note
The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts proudly held the Launch Ceremony for its 40th Anniversary Celebration in the Academy Atrium on the evening of September 26, 2024. The Academy was honoured to receive a congratulatory video message from The Honourable John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The ceremony was officiated by The Honourable Kevin Yeung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Mr. Lin Nan, Deputy Director-General, Department of Publicity, Cultural and Sports Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; alongside Mr. Charles Yang Chuen-liang, Chairman of the Academy Council and Professor Gillian Choa, Director of the Academy.

HKAPA Ignites Cultural Exchange and Nurtures Young Musicians through the Greater Bay Area Youth Orchestra
Following last year's successful debut concert tour, the Greater Bay Area Youth Orchestra (GBAYO), presented by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) and supported by the Swire Group as Founding Patron, has returned for a second tour across four cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). This year’s concert tour, Romancing the Dragon, continues the mission of cultural exchange and fostering talents by gathering 93 promising young musicians aged between 16 and 24 from Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou and Shenzhen for 11 days of training and live concert performances.

Director of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Professor Gillian Choa to conclude her tenure
Professor Gillian Choa, Director of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), has expressed to the Council her intention of retiring from the post after the completion of her current tenure on 31 August 2024 and hence not seeking re-appointment. Professor Choa has accepted the invitation of the Council to stay until 31 December 2024 to help ensure smooth transition.
The Council of the HKAPA respected the decision of Professor Choa and expressed gratitude for her effort in leading the Academy to develop as the top performing arts institute in Asia. Professor Choa has served in the HKAPA for 28 years with devotion. She has been enthusiastic in fostering the education of Chinese and Western arts and is well respected.
The Council will form a committee to conduct global search for the next Director.
