Professor at the Graduate Institute of Transdicsiplinary Performing Arts,  TNUA. She was the Dean of Office of International Affairs, NTUA. She holds a PhD in Dance Studies from Laban Centre, London (LCL). Dr. Chao is the president of Taiwan Dance Research Society. She is the author of Text, Analysis and Interpretation - A Preliminary Proposal on Dance Studies (2015). She is the founding editor of Taiwan Dance Magazine, the chief editor of Taiwan Dance Research Journal (Vol. 10, Vol. 18). Dr. Chao is a co-editor and co-author of Dancing Chapters (2023). She is a co-author of Appreciating Dance (1999), Fifty Contemporary Choreographers (2011).
