The Academy embraces the idea of Practice-as-Research (PaR) which treats artistic practice as a rigorous form of inquiry: The creative work itself is both the method and primary research outcome, supported by critical reflection and documentation. PaR seeks to develop operational knowledge that advances professional artistry, pedagogy, and understanding. This approach is integrated across HKAPA’s undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. The Department of Performing Arts Research and the Department of General Education and Research have key role to play in cultivating students’ PaR competence through offering the following courses:
Undergraduate Academy Electives:
Reflective Practice in Performing Arts
Performing Arts Research
Writing in Performing Arts
Documenting Performing Arts
Postgraduate Competency Courses:
Research and Practice-as-Research
Process Writing
The Department of Performing Arts Research also supports research activities in the Academy. For more details, please visit: Performing Arts Research Department | HKAPA
