Mr CHAN Samuel

Biography

Mr Samuel Chan is a Lecturer in Lighting and Media Production in the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.


Mr Chan obtained a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama in the Yale University. His work on "Twelfth Night" was nominated for the Outstanding Lighting Design in the Connecticut Critics Circle Awards. His installation of Aesthetics and Freedom of Human Beings is one of the finalists of the 26th IFVA. Mr Chan is a fellow of the Academy for Theater and Digitality of Theater in Dortmund, where he researched the application of Artificial Intelligence in Theatrical Design Process back.


Mr Chan practices as a scenographer and Lighting Designer mainly for theatrical performance, he worked with Chung Ying Theatre Company, On and On Theatre Workshop, Unlock Dancing Plaza among others.


Mr Chan also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Archival Studies, and is currently researching on putting archival practices into theatrical creative processes and education.
