Biography

Mr. Ken Wilkins is from the U.K. and is the Senior Lecturer in Scenic Construction at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. Mr. Wilkins has nearly 45 years experience in Scenic Construction.

Ken’s career began as an assistant carpenter and set painter in a regional repertory theatre in the UK. He worked his way up the ranks to become a Master carpenter then moved from theatre and ran his own set design and construction workshop. After that he concentrated on ‘trouble shooting’ bigger productions and events all over the world.

He holds City & Guilds certificates in both 2D & 3D computer aided design and modelling.

He is currently researching new ways to build scenery using different materials that could be re-useable and exploring 3D printing techniques, hoping to achieve a cleaner, safer working environment.

In the current global crisis Ken has decided to pass on his knowledge and hopes that when normality returns, he will have laid a foundation for his students to approach the outside world with the same enthusiasm and commitment he has always had for Scenic Construction in its many and varied forms.
