The School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts offers a one-year full-time Certificate in Theatre and Entertainment Arts (Fast Track Vocational) programme, structured to provide practical experience in the production disciplines of theatre, entertainment and performing arts. Students will be offered core studies within the disciplines listed below, as well as production practice, industry placement and other supporting studies in the school. A student who has successfully completed the programme should have the ability to enter the entertainment industry at junior level.

Entrance Requirements

  • Applicants should have completed secondary school education.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who can also show a genuine passion, interest and desire to pursue a career in the theatre and the entertainment arts industry, preferably in one of the specialist areas offered.
  • Acceptance is based upon an interview and review of portfolio work where applicable.

Selection Requirements

Preliminary Selection

  • Selection is based upon review of school records, HKCEE / HKDSE scores, previous experience in performing arts, portfolio review, letters of reference and a written statement of personal goals.
     

Interview

  • Candidates who pass the first screening will be invited to attend one or more personal interviews or recruitment exercises.
    Admission will be based primarily on personal interviews, portfolio review and/or practical tests.


Information required for interview includes

  • Resume of relevant experience
  • Statement of personal goals (reasons for applying for this programme, goals and aspiration of the student)
  • Letter(s) of recommendation (teachers, designers, managers and directors) (if any)

 

Applicants for the following major study areas are required to submit portfolios

When submitting the application form, applicants applying for any specialisations within the programme should submit 3 copies of their Portfolio. These Portfolios must be in A4 size with NO MORE THAN 20 pages (40 sides). It could be hardcopy, PDF in portable storage or online portfolio (QR code or web link). The Portfolio should contain SELECTED works that represent your creative talents as applicable to the area you applied for. Photocopies of research material are NOT necessary. Do NOT hand in Disc (CD or DVD) for the Portfolio. All submitted Portfolios will NOT be returned.

 

Technical Theatre and Stage Management
Portfolio examples: Production files, record, budget, schedule, running lists, photographs or other supporting documents for theatre presentations, community projects or other performing arts for which applicants have acted in Stage or Event Management capacity.

 

Lighting Technology, Sound Technology
Portfolio examples: video, photos, technical drawings, paper works or renderings, critics, recording, or other supporting documents for theatre presentations, community projects, other performing arts, any productions or projects which applicants have been involved with.

 

Costume Making, Property Making and Scenic Painting
Portfolio examples: copies of original works such as sketches, drawings, renderings, paintings, technical drawings, visual diaries etc.; photographs of 3D works such as costumes, props, sculptures, models etc.

Tuition Fee
HK$31,575 (tuition fee for 2020/21 as reference only)
Tuition fees for an academic year are payable in two equal installments before the start of each semester, i.e. before September for Semester One and before February for Semester Two. Any fees paid are not refundable.
