Biography

Dr Boaz Chow is a Lecturer in Music - Chinese Opera in the School of Chinese Opera at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

 

Dr Chow obtained a PhD degree from Hong Kong Baptist University. His teaching and artistic practice areas include Cantonese opera music theory, Chinese opera history, Chinese literature and culture, and Cantonese opera playwriting theory. His nearly 20 years of experience in higher education has contributed extensively to the field of Cantonese opera through both teaching and curriculum development.

 

In addition to his academic role, Dr Chow is actively engaged in Cantonese opera playwriting and scriptwriting. His works include full-length works Mother and Sons, The Chalk Circle, and original work Pearl Bay, and Cantonese opera excerpts The House of Hu and Eight Divinities Crossing the Sea, etc., aiming at enriching the repertoire, fostering the artistic growth of the next generation of performers, and integrating traditional operatic forms with contemporary creative approaches.
