Biography

Dr Crystal Koo is a Lecturer in the General Education Department at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.


Dr Koo obtained her PhD in Creative Writing from Goldsmiths, University of London, her MA in Creative Writing from The University of New South Wales, and her BA in English Studies from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.  


Her areas of interest include English creative writing, speculative fiction, postcolonialism, and scale theory. Her short fiction has been published in multiple venues and has been included in The Apex Book of World SF 3 and The Best of Philippine Speculative Fiction 2009; her play The Foundling was staged at the Fringe Club in Hong Kong in 2009.  


Dr Koo was awarded first prize in the RTHK Hong Kong Top Story in 2013 and the Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature in 2007. She is currently a reader for the Bridport Prize and the Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize.
