Joined the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2005
Alex Lai started his filmmaking career in 1989. From 1994 to 1996, he was a director at Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), directing a number of drama series. He also worked for various production companies directing TV commercials. In 1996, he furthered his studies in England and was awarded a master’s degree in TV Drama by Goldsmiths College, University of London.
He is also active in independent filmmaking. His short films have won awards and were officially selected and screened at festivals in Hong Kong, Taiwan, France, Poland, Portugal and Chile. He directed his debut feature Blue August in 2000.
