Masterclass (Technique) by Kim Na-ye (FULL)
The Countertechnique class is a contemporary dance technique class that stretches, coordinates and strengthens the body, making the dancer sweat, build stamina and really move. The class starts with a recurring set of exercises, allowing dancers to investigate the Countertechnique principles in detail. The second half of the class consists of changing components, working towards luscious movement combinations and jumping at the end. This class results in dancers using less energy, losing their fear of taking risks and gaining speed in changing direction.

It facilitates the development of the movement languages and structures central to his work, exploring the interrelation and hybridity of form. This workshop introduces the tools and processes used in the movement of Cameron’s work and offers a practical application of his choreographic approach. It explores physical articulacy through the analysis and activation of the body in space and its expressivity. The workshop encourages reflection and participants’ awareness of their own movement histories and trajectories through conscious movement decision-making. Participants will experience a range of improvisational and movement generation tools and compositional strategies drawn from Cameron’s choreographic practice and repertoire, highlighting the hybridity of form and the evolution of ballet into a contemporary context.

Masterclass (Technique) by Leila McMillan (FULL)
Flying Low
Flying Low emphasizes a dancer's connection to the floor through floorwork, using simple movement patterns that prioritize speed and energy release. This enhances the relationship between the body's center and joints, allowing dancers to move efficiently while maintaining a centered state. The focus on skeletal alignment improves physical awareness and alertness. Participants explore movement phrases that engage foundational physics concepts, such as cohesion and expansion, connecting their bodies to the environment—air, floor, and each other. By activating spirals within the body, dancers enhance three-dimensional movement, allowing limbs to function as extensions. Throughout the practice, voice bridges the mind and body. As the work evolves, dancers improvise with set phrases, cultivating collaboration and trust while prioritizing safety. Originally created by David Zambrano, Leila has led the technique's development in the UK and introduced it to Hong Kong.

Shadow Dancing
This improvisation method delves into the concept of duality, exploring how two truths can coexist. It focuses on the intersection of movement and martial arts, integrating duo tools from Passing Through improvisation and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The practice is based on improvisation tasks and games that navigate physical contact and distance, while exploring the space between bodies. By activating grips and hooks, and alternating between softness and assertiveness, we will create body entanglements and investigate different states of tension. We will work with the connection of two bodies and the memory of the absent body. In pairs, roles such as witness, support, and instigator will be established, fostering a rich, dynamic environment. This practice serves as a foundational movement language for the ongoing work, Chasing Ghosts (2023/25).

Mapping of Lineage
This masterclass draws from F5, a choreographic process inviting each dancer to map their own personal journey and its intersection with ancestral history, relationships and the energy that drives us forward. The session will begin with a warm-up focused on body articulation, memory and connecting with the body's physical and emotional map. Participants will engage in free writing exercises to explore and deepen the memories they have brought with them. From this, each participant will create a short movement phrase that reflects how the memory manifests in their body, space and time. These phrases will be shared and woven together into a collaborative composition, fostering trust, connection and a shared narrative. Participants should come with a specific memory, family member or geographical location in mind that they would like to explore and bring a journal and pen to engage both physically and reflectively.
