Biography

Mr Mandrew Kwan is a Lecturer in Production Management, Interdisciplinary Projects and Partnerships in the School of Film and Television at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

 

Mr Kwan obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Film and Television from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Toronto respectively. 

 

Mr Kwan is a Hong Kong film director, screenwriter, and educator whose work spans social realism and genre cinema. Over the past decade, he has directed and produced numerous documentaries and short films. His short film Affection was selected for the Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival and the 39th Golden Harvest Awards in Taiwan. Besides, he has also directed television drama and documentary episodes for RTHK, including Cow and Their Own Voices.


In 2024, he wrote and directed his debut solo feature The Remnant (2025), produced under the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers “Keep Rolling Keep Running” initiative. Drawing on his documentary background, the film weaves issues of rehabilitation, single-parent families, drug trafficking, and property monopolies into a crime-genre framework, reflecting his creative approach of using popular genres to embody social realities.
