Biography

Bronze Medalist of the Third Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis and First Violinist of the Miami String Quartet from 1995 to 2010, Ivan Chan is currently Associate Professor of Music at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Distinguished Professor of Shanghai University School of Music. As a visiting artist, he has taught at the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School, New England Conservatory, Ravinia’s Steans Institute, Meadowmount School of Music, Morningside Music Bridge, Beijing Central Conservatory, and Shanghai Conservatory. As an adjudicator, Chan served on the panels of the 2022 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, Stulberg International String Competition, New World Symphony concerto competition, and has been a member of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis screening committee since 2010. He is also on faculty in festivals including the New York String Orchestra Seminar, Music@Menlo Chamber Music Institute, Kent Blossom Music Festival, and Heifetz International Music Institute.
