Biography

Professor Ivan Chan is Senior Lecturer in String Chamber Music in the School of Music at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

 

His teaching and artistic practice encompass string chamber music performance and violin pedagogy.

 

A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music (BM), Professor Chan is a Bronze Medallist at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis and served as first violinist of the Miami String Quartet from 1995 to 2010. He maintains an active international career as a chamber musician, teacher, and mentor. He has taught as a visiting artist at the Curtis Institute of Music, The Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory, and the Colburn School, as well as at programmes and festivals including Ravinia’s Steans Institute, Meadowmount School of Music, and Morningside Music Bridge. He regularly serves on juries for competitions including the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis and the Stulberg International String Competition, and coaches at the New York String Orchestra Seminar, Music@Menlo, Kent Blossom, and the Heifetz International Music Institute. He is also a Distinguished Professor at the School of Music, Shanghai University.
