Biography

Dr Tang’s works have been described by Ablaze Records as “incisive and brilliant... a fresh compositional voice,” and have been premiered and performed worldwide. She has been exploring her voice by collaborating with artists in different disciplines, including visual arts, photography, literature, theatre, and dance.


Dr Tang has attracted numerous commissions from musicians and performing groups. Her recent commissioned works include Since When (2023) music and installations for Tai Kwun Spotlight, Double Exposure (2020, for double string quartet) for Cong Quartet and Romer String Quartet, Blaze (2019, for Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra), Deep into the Stillness (2022, for erhu and piano), Moon Shadow (2019, for pipa and piano), Silver Lining (2019, for symphonic wind orchestra), Kinetic Metallics (2018, for prepared vibraphone), (Im)pulses (2017, for dancer and percussion quartet), Remembrance of the Stonewall Trees (2017, for sheng), in time of daffodils (2016, for choirs and orchestra), site-specific works Flow Like Water (2019) and Sounds of Disappearance (2018), and various theatrical music for AFTEC productions. Her works were published on Navona Records and Ablaze Records; her scores are published by BabelScores.


Dr Tang was awarded an Asian Cultural Council fellowship in 2017. Her cross-disciplinary work Since When was awarded the CASH Golden Sail Music Awards - Best Serious Composition in 2023. 

 

Dr Tang received a PhD in musicology at The University of Hong Kong. She has taught at The University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University. She has been teaching at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts since 2017.
