Artistically directed by Tang Shu-wing, with French guest music director Béatrice Thiret, and re-edited by filmmaker Jérôme Diamant‑Berger, the work is built around Henri Diamant‑Berger’s 1921 French silent film The Three Musketeers. It reimagines the classic through a contemporary dialogue with the Chinese literary masterpiece Water Margin. The visual language of French silent cinema is combined with original music composed by students from the Composition and Electronic Music Department and a newly written Cantonese script, performed by students from the School of Music and the School of Drama, alongside multimedia content created by students from the School of Film and Television.

Academy Oboe Masterclass by Nicholas Daniel
Nicholas Daniel OBE has long been acknowledged as one of the world’s great oboists and is one of Britain’s best-known musicians. He has significantly enlarged the repertoire for his instrument by commissioning hundreds of new works.
Nicholas dedicates his life to music in many varied ways. He records and broadcasts widely, recently signing an exclusive contract with Chandos Records. He also boasts a huge international following on social media and streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. Highly sought after as a teacher, he has been a professor at the Trossingen Musikhochschule in Germany for more than 20 years.
In recognition of his achievements, he was honoured in 2012 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with the prestigious Queen’s Medal for Music, cited for making “an outstanding contribution to the musical life of the nation.” In October 2020, he was awarded an OBE, and in 2022, he received the Cobbett Medal for Chamber Music from the Musicians’ Company.
As the winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, he studied at London’s Royal Academy of Music with Janet Craxton and Celia Nicklin, and then privately with clarinettist Anthony Pay and Hans Keller. He quickly established his career with early debuts at the BBC Proms and on disc. He has been a concerto soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, performing a vast range of repertoire and premiering works written for him.
