The Academy is unique in that performance and production outcomes are central to its programmes. Practice-based research is encouraged for its contribution to enhancing educational and performance outcomes. The Centre for General Education, Research and Digital Learning, a major academic unit within the Academy, offers liberal arts and language courses, as well as the MA programme in Performing Arts Studies. It also hosts the Academy’s Journal PA:PER. This Centre is instrumental in integrating practice-based research into both undergraduate and postgraduate curricula.

 

The successful candidate will assist the Principal Head (General Education and Research) in teaching and developing practice-based research at the Academy. His/Her responsibilities include delivering a core postgraduate course entitled “Research and Practice-as-Research” and an undergraduate elective called “Reflective Practice in Performing Arts”. He/She will also conduct staff professional development workshops in practice-based research, collaborate with and advise staff and students on research projects. Additionally, he/she will participate in organising research activities, prepare resources for staff and students, and support teaching staff in generating research outputs and building research profiles.  

 

Required qualifications and skills: 
(a) An earned PhD/Doctorate in Performing Arts or a related discipline, or an MFA/MA degree in Performing Arts or a related discipline, with a strong command in research methodologies and substantial practice-based research experience; 
(b) Significant professional experience and proven track record in practice research or academic research; 
(c) A minimum of four years of experience in teaching undergraduate/postgraduate level courses in Performing, Creative or Technical Arts or a related area;
(d) Relevant experience in developing, designing and implementing curriculum and pedagogy in higher education;
(e) Ability to develop undergraduate and postgraduate courses for in-person, online or in digital technology-supported delivery;
(f) People-mindedness, with a focus on outcomes-based learning; and
(g) Fluency in spoken and written English.

 

Additional desirable skills:
(h) Fluency in spoken and written Chinese.

 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT 
Appointment will be on a two-year contract.  Renewal of contract is subject to performance. A gratuity payment equals up to 15% of the total basic salary earned during the contract period may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period.  The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Academy’s contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, equals 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. Subject to negotiation, the expected commencement date will be by August/ September 2024.
