Dear Students, Colleagues, Alumni and Friends of HKAPA,
Rankings and league tables are often, as the saying goes, the ‘tip of the iceberg’. While I am proud to share that HKAPA is ranked 10th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings for Performing Arts and 1st in Asia, I am equally drawn to reflect on what lies beneath the surface: the people, the dedication, and the daily commitment to the artistic pursuit.
This recognition also reveals something distinctive about HKAPA: one Academy across six Schools. Our work is strengthened when performers, creators, designers, technicians and producers learn in proximity, understand one another’s processes, and bring ideas to life together. That culture of collaboration is not an add-on. It is central to how we train and prepare students for professional realities.
An Ensemble Effort
As we marvel at this milestone, I am thankful for the sustained team effort that brought us to this point. Our progress has been earned through the consistent work of our students and faculty across all disciplines, supported by colleagues in production, technical and professional services. Many contributions are out of sight, yet essential to the learning experience and the quality of what we put on stage.
Beyond the campus, our alumni and partners continue to mentor, collaborate and keep us connected to the profession as it evolves. We are grateful to our benefactors and supporters for their guidance and generosity, and to the HKSAR Government and the Academy Council for their continued support. Thank you to every one of you who helped shape this journey. This belongs to you.
Jeté to New Heights
On the cusp of completing my first year as Director, I am filled with both gratitude and humility, and with real pride in what our students and faculty accomplish every day. Now, however, is not the time to rest on our laurels. With a new Council in place since January and a new leadership team now fully on board, we are shaping the Academy’s next phase with clear purposes.
The Academy will continue to evolve and become more future-ready. That means opening more doors for students and faculty through partnerships and exchange, widening access, strengthening career pathways, and working more sustainably while embracing thoughtful innovation in art and technology. It also means deepening our social impact by connecting our work more meaningfully with the community, ensuring the performing arts remain a force for inclusion and positive change.
Looking ahead, we are preparing for an exciting new chapter in the Academy’s development. We expect to establish a new campus in the Northern Metropolis within the next decade, supported by transition plans that include a short-term temporary campus. This expansion will strengthen our capacity to nurture high-calibre cultural talent and support the long-term growth of the cultural and creative industries, in alignment with Hong Kong’s cultural blueprint.
Thank you once again for bringing HKAPA to where it is today. As we set the next stage together, we hope we can continue to count on your support. We will keep you updated on our progress, and we look forward to building the Academy’s future with you.
With gratitude,
Professor Anna CY Chan
