Chan Ho-choi has dedicated himself to the promotion of music throughout his life, writing articles, and editing and publishing music journals and magazines. He has been the presenter of the music programme Enchanting Music for Radio Television Hong Kong since 1960, and promotes music and culture through his website www.musicdata.org.

Mr Chan helped establish the Hong Kong Children’s Choir in 1969 and is Chairman of the Board of Directors. Under the supervision of a group of dedicated musicians, the choir members not only have the opportunity to develop their artistic talents, but also to learn the importance of unity through practice and performance. Originally established with just 39 members, the Hong Kong Children’s Choir is now the biggest choir in the world, with over 5,000 boys and girls receiving choral training. Groups drawn from the Hong Kong Children’s Choir are given opportunities to perform in annual gala concerts and mini-concerts in Hong Kong, and perform on overseas tours. For the past 37 years, the choir has made a tremendous contribution to arts education for children in Hong Kong, not only cultivating children’s interests and talents in the arts, but also helping them to develop inter-personal skills, and cultivate appreciation of culture and the virtues of excellence.

Mr Chan has long been a dedicated Arts advocate working for Hong Kong’s community services. He was a Member of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s Advisory Panel on Music since 2000, a Member of the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards Chief Adjudication Panel for 2003, and on the panel of the Programme Development Committee of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, advising the Department on local, Mainland and overseas performing arts programmes, and formulating structured and sustainable strategies for identifying and supporting the development of budding and small-scale performing arts groups.
