Citation

Born in Macau and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a Master’s Degree in Computer Sciences, Vincent Chow returned to his family’s business Chow Sang Sang in 1984.  At the same time, he started to devote himself to public service.

In 1989 he joined the Board of the Chung Ying Theatre Company as Chairman.  By 1991 he was appointed to the then Urban Council and sat on the Museum Select Committee and took on the post of Vice Chairman of the Culture Select Committee.  He also served in the General Committee of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society, and was appointed to the Council for Performing Arts.  In 1996, he was appointed Chairman of the Arts Development Council.  After the abolition of the Urban Council, Mr Chow was appointed to head a team of drama experts to set up the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Limited; and went on to serve as the founding chairman of the Company.

He is currently the Vice Chairman of the Performing Arts Committee, the Chairman of the Art Form Panel (Theatre) of the Leisure & Cultural Services Department and Chairman of the Board of Musica Viva Limited.  Recently he has joined the Board of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society Limited.

Mr Chow’s long association with the Academy dates back to 1993 when he first joined its Council.  After retiring from the Council, he was invited to join the Council Committee to review the Academy’s Governance and Management in 2005.  He is now a member of the Audit Committee under the Academy Council.

While devoting time and energy to the arts, Mr Chow and his company Chow Sang Sang has been actively supporting performing arts programmes as well as government initiatives such as staging cultural events at the World Expo.

In addition to being an arts supporter, Mr Chow also served on other governmental committees.  He has been a member of the Council of City University of Hong Kong, where he is now the Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of Management of the Community College of City University of Hong Kong.
