The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) will physically present its annual Open Day on March 5 after 3 years. Members of the public are invited to enjoy special events at the Wanchai Main Campus and the Béthanie Landmark Heritage Campus in Pokfulam of the Academy.

 

Professor Gillian Choa, Director of the Academy remarks, “We are delighted to follow the tradition of presenting our annual Open Day in physical format this year and bring free performing arts events to the public. The Academy has continued to explore innovative ways of teaching and learning and will be keen to showcase special programmes integrating performing arts and technology at this year’s Open Day. We hope the public in Hong Kong and the region will come to enjoy the exciting activities meticulously planned by our faculty and students.”

 

A wide array of performing arts activities includes a performance by Junior Symphony Orchestra, concerts of Chinese and Western music, excerpt performances of musicals, drama, Cantonese opera, open classes in dance, design and technology displays, as well as film and television graduation screenings. Guided tours will be arranged for visitors to experience performing arts technologies and explore the magic of the backstage with specially designed displays of sets, props, costumes and stage effects. The open house event of the Academy Library - "Go Digital" Library Themed Exhibition is also another highlight of the day.

 

Meanwhile, the Alumni Association invited renowned alumni Mak Tin-shu, Amos Why, Kearen Pang Sau-wai, Sunny Chan Wing-san, Ho Cheuk-tin and Louis Cheung Kai-chung to share their insights in a sharing session titled “Elite Alumni Sharing Session – Hong Kong Films, What’s Next?” which is not to be missed!

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), established by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Ordinance in 1984, is a leading tertiary institution in the performing arts in Asia. It provides professional undergraduate education and practice-based postgraduate studies. The study encompasses Chinese Opera, Dance, Drama, Film and Television, Music, and Theatre and Entertainment Arts. Besides the main campus in Wanchai, Béthanie, the site of the Academy’s Landmark Heritage Campus in Pokfulam, has housed training facilities for the School of Film and Television since 2006. In the QS World University Rankings announced in 2022, the Academy is ranked 1^st in Asia and 10^th in the world in the Performing Arts category.
