The 39th Graduation Ceremony of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (the Academy) was held at the Academy Lyric Theatre this afternoon.

The ceremony was officiated by Council Chairman Mr Charles Yang Chuen-liang SBS JP. Professor Anna CY Chan, Director of the Academy, delivered a speech at the ceremony. She remarked, “This academic year is especially meaningful as we recently marked the Academy’s 40th Anniversary with many productions and events. This milestone highlights the ethos of ONE Academy – the teamwork of our talented students, alumni, and faculty across all six Schools. Each of you has been crucial in this journey. We are also proud to be ranked among the World’s top 20 in the Performing Arts category in the QS World University Rankings 2025. Looking ahead, we are building on this foundation with our 10-year strategic plan, aligning with Hong Kong’s vision as a global hub for cultural exchange. We will deepen partnerships with local and international industries, creating robust internship programmes that offer the Academy students invaluable real-world experience. We are also committed to integrating the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, promoting sustainable and green practices in the performing arts. I am especially enthusiastic about our ideas and plans for a new Performing Arts Innovation Centre, designed to foster creativity and offer a platform for students, alumni, and artists to experiment with innovative techniques such as AI, virtual reality, and other forms of digital media. We aim to cultivate a new generation of artists and thinkers by offering training in IP, entrepreneurship, and business models within the cultural and creative industries, along with opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.”

This year, a total of 354 graduates from the six Schools of the Academy; namely, Chinese Opera, Dance, Drama, Film and Television, Music, and Theatre and Entertainment Arts, as well as the Department of Performing Arts Research, were conferred Master’s Degrees, Bachelor’s (Honours) Degrees, Diplomas, or Certificates.
