The 35th Anniversary Academy Festival Kicked Off

3 May 2019

The 35th Anniversary Academy Festival presented by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), featuring more than 50 performances and activities, will run till 1 July 2019. Some programmes offer free admission to the public.

The 3rd edition of the Academy Festival, coinciding with the celebration of the Academy 35th Anniversary, aims to showcase the outstanding talent of students from our six Schools through a wide array of engaging and creative performances featuring Chinese opera, dance, drama, music, coupled with captivating film screenings and exhibitions on stage design and costumes. The Academy hopes the Festival will attract members of the public to enjoy and deepen their appreciation of the performing arts.

As the opening event, the School of Dance Spring Performances presented four new premieres created by international and local choreographers — Jonathan Watkins, Xing Liang, Rick Nodine and Anh Ngoc Nguyen. The four works are various in style, expression and theme, yet they all share one essence — the manifestation of the relationship between unity and diversity. The 59 student dancers, each with distinctive individualities, immersed the audiences with the true power of dance, while reflecting their expression of self, society and dance in their performances. Council Chairman Professor Stephen Chow, Council members, Director Professor Adrian Walter, management of the Academy and guests enjoyed the opening dance performances.
