Reporting to the Assistant Librarian I (Reader Services), the appointee will provide services at the circulation counter.  Major responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

(a) Assist users in the use of library services, equipment and facilities.
(b) Answering general enquiries as well as providing clerical support to different sections of the Library.

(c) Assist in coordinating the distribution and display of library promotion posters.

(d) Monitor patron access and collect headcounts.
(e) Perform stack maintenance such as shelving, shelf-reading, etc.
(f) Perform any other duties as required.

 

The appointee is required to perform regular and shift duties in the libraries at the Wanchai and Bethanie campuses in the evenings, on weekends and public holidays.  The appointee is also responsible for transferring library items between the two campuses.

 

Applicants should have:
(a) A recognized associate degree/higher diploma or equivalent qualifications;
(b) Good IT knowledge and be proficiency in computer applications including MS Office, Outlook and Chinese word processing;
(c) Good command of spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua;
(d) Service-oriented work attitude; and
(e) Good inter-personal and communication skills.

 

Preference will be given to those who have:
(f) Relevant working experience in academic libraries.

 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement.  A gratuity payment equals up to 10% of the total basic salary earned during the contract period, may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract. The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Academy’s contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, that equals 10% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
