The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its recent resurgence has severely impacted on the local economy. To assist the Academy’s students who are having financial difficulties, the Council has led the Academy to establish a bursary scheme and new scholarships to provide timely relief to the Academy’s local students who are experiencing genuine financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

With the leadership of the Academy’s Council Chairman Professor Stephen Chow, and support of Council Members, the Academy has managed to achieve a record-breaking fundraising result providing much welcome support for these new initiatives. A funding of about HK$11.336M will be used for the two initiatives below.

 

2020/21 COVID-19 Student Support Bursary

The objective of this one-off bursary is to provide funding to support Academy students who are experiencing financial difficulties, or whose families are experiencing unexpected financial challenges. A bursary to a maximum amount of HK$10,000 will be made available for each successful applicant.

 

HKAPA Scholarships 2020/21

HKAPA Scholarships 2020/21 are to assist those families of local undergraduate students who are experiencing genuine financial hardship, with priority given to Year 1 students. Each full scholarship will be for an amount of HK$42,100. The scholarship will be available for 5% of the total student population of each school, the duration of the awards will be for up to four years, renewable subject to satisfactory academic results and School recommendation.

 

The Academy will continue to monitor the development of COVID-19 pandemic and provide necessary and timely support to students in need.
