With the generous support of Chinachem Group, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (“the Academy”) organised an Accessible Tour for the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts (TEA) Graduate Exhibition 2026.
The tour offered an exceptional experience that moved beyond traditional visual modes of viewing artwork. Led by a professional audio descriptor, over 20 visually impaired participants and their companions visited the exhibition held at the Academy’s theatre. With their own hands, participants fingered the scenic paintings, props, and crafted costumes created by our graduates and experienced the wonders of theatre arts through touch, guided interaction, and imagination.
One of the participants was greatly impressed by the craftsmanship of a Rococo Baroque man’s court suit. “Aside from the hand-sewn gold embroidery on the lapels and cuffs, the waistcoat also includes jacquard patterns. They are all so exquisitely hand-made!” The feedback had deeply inspired our students and helped them to better appreciate the humanistic values behind the production of performing arts. In the workshop that followed, our students led the participants to embellish bonnets with laces, discovering the fun of art creation together through interactive communication.
The Academy extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong, our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) partner, whose full support made this initiative a success in promoting social inclusion through the arts.
In the future, the Academy will continue to host outreach programmes and guided activities for diverse communities, offering opportunities to explore the performing arts, gain insight into stage production, and inspire future educational and career pathways.
