The Academy selects applicants for admission on the basis of the General Admission Requirements (GAR) and Language Admission Requirements specified for respective programmes as well as Programme Specific Admission Requirements such as applicants' talents, attainment and relevant training in the chosen disciplines. Applicants may be asked to attend an audition and/or an interview or to submit a portfolio or to sit an entry test, or a combination of these as deemed necessary by the Schools which offer the respective programmes.

Undergraduate Programmes

 

1. General Admission Requirements (GAR)

 

Completion of senior secondary education; with either one of the following qualifications:

 

(a) Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination

      The applicant shall have attained the following:

(i) Level 3 or above in the English Language subject; and   
(ii) Level 3 or above in the Chinese Language subject; and   
(iii) Level 2 or above in the Mathematics subject; and   
(iv) "Attained" result in the Citizenship and Social Development subject; and   
(v) Level 2 or above in at least one other subject ("Attained" result in one Applied Learning subject is considered as fulfilling one HKDSE subject requirement)

(b) Diploma in (Discipline*) Foundations awarded by the Academy, subject to meeting specified articulation requirements.

*Discipline refers to Cantonese Opera or Dance or Drama or Music or Theatre and Entertainment Arts

 

(c) Other Recognised Qualifications

  • A combination of BTEC Level 3 Diplomas/Certificates making up a total of 180 credits with UCAS tariff point 48 or more

  • Senior High School Certificate/Diploma (Grade 12); or
  • Satisfactory completion of the first two years of a bachelor's degree programme at a recognised university (for applicants who have not completed senior high school Grades 11 and 12)
Singapore
  • Diploma awarded by one of the following institutions: Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, LASALLE College of the Arts; or
  • Senior High School Graduate Certificate and passes in three H2 subjects or passes in two H2 and two H1 subjects in Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-level

3. Programme Specific Admission Requirements

Each School specifies its admission requirements which are discipline-specific. Nonetheless, the applicants all fall under a common admission framework as follows:

(i)   All applicants applying to the programmes of respective Schools will be subject to the same admission selection process for determination of the competency level.

(ii)   Admission selection comprises a process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) with verification through audition and/or interview and/or portfolio presentation and/or entry test .

Diploma in Foundations Programmes

  • Appropriate qualification relevant to the chosen discipline from a recognised professional training institution; or
  • Significant work or performance experience in areas relevant to the chosen discipline, and artistic/performance standard.

Certificate in Theatre and Entertainment Arts (Fast Track Vocational)

Applicants should have completed secondary school education and also show a genuine passion, interest and desire to work in theatre, the entertainment arts, preferably in one of the specialist areas offered.  Acceptance is based on an interview and review of portfolio work where applicable.
