Programme Specific Requirements and Supporting Documents for Admissions

Master of Fine Arts in Dance

Applicants should possess an overall programme grade of B (3.0 out of 4.0) or above in the Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.


In addition to the general admission requirements and the programme specific admission requirements, applicants are also required to submit the following supporting application materials:

 

Applicants for Choreography Major are required to submit:

  • Digital recordings of two (2) (5-10 mins each) or one (1) long work (minimum 20 mins) collaborated, choreographed and/or performed including a group work, a solo and/or duet. Please specify your role and creative contribution to the works presented.

And at least one of the following:

  • Evidence of participation in national or international dance festivals or residencies;
  • One Screendance or Dance Film production;
  • Reflective essay, published papers or conference proceedings.   

 

Applicants for Dance Pedagogy Major are required to submit:

  • Teaching portfolio including a digital recording of two recordings (5-10 minutes each) or one (1) long recording (minimum 20 minutes) of teaching, a dance or movement class, and/or conducting or assisting at workshops, masterclasses, or residencies. Please specify your role and contributions in the teaching examples provided.

And at least one of the following:

  • Digital recording of at least one work demonstrating performance ability at professional standard in a selected genre;
  • Accreditation and certification from professional dance teachers' organisations or bodies;
  • Evidence of teaching employment at tertiary institutions, arts organisations, or private dance studios;
  • Reflective essay, published papers or conference proceedings.
     

Applicants for Dance Science Major are required to submit at least two of the following:

  • Digital recording of at least one video or paperwork demonstrating ability at a professional standard in a selected dance science topic (includes but not limited to exercise physiology, performance psychology, mindfulness, and physical fitness);
  • Accreditation and certification from professional physical, psychological, or mindfulness training organisations or bodies;
  • Proof of conducting theoretical or practical workshops and courses on dance performance-related topics;
  • Records of previous qualitative or quantitative research experience, including published papers or conference proceedings if any;
  • Reflective written essay for dancers and teachers with a keen interest to enhance performance and/or pedagogical practice.
