The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts welcomes the appointment of Mr Symon Wong Yu-wing as new Council Chairman of the Academy

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts welcomes the appointment of Mr Symon Wong Yu-wing MH as the new Council Chairman; Mr Yam Tat-wing SBS PDSM CPM as Deputy Chairman; Ms Kelly Chan Yuen-sau JP as Treasurer, and Ms Christine Leung, Ms Yolanda Ng MH and Mr Ray Woo as new members of the Academy Council as appointed by the Chief Executive of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with effect from 1 January 2026. The Academy believes that Mr Symon Wong Yu-wing, with his distinguished contributions in public service and experience as Deputy Chairman of the Council will bring even more significant benefits to the Academy’s further advancements.

 

The Academy would also like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing Council Chairman, Mr Charles Yang Chuen-liang SBS JP, for his remarkable contributions and staunch support to the Academy throughout the years. Under his guidance, the Academy successfully organised its 40th Anniversary celebrations and spearheaded the overall planning for the new campus in the Northern Metropolis. Meanwhile, the Academy is grateful to the outgoing Treasurer, Mrs Helen Chan SBS, and members Mrs Christine Ip Yeung See-ming, Ms Sheryl Lee Ming-chi and Mr Andrew Leung Chun-keung, for their dedicated service and steadfast support to the Academy.

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), established by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Ordinance in 1984, is a world-leading higher education institution for the performing arts. It provides professionally-oriented undergraduate education and postgraduate studies in Chinese Opera, Dance, Drama, Film and Television, Music, and Theatre and Entertainment Arts. The Academy has been granted Programme Area Accreditation status by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications to award its own Certificates, Diplomas, Bachelor’s (Honours) Degrees and Master’s Degrees. In the past four decades, more than 10,000 artists have graduated from the Academy, going on to become performing artists, creative arts practitioners, filmmakers, educators and cultural leaders with global impact – many have won international awards and shone in their respective artistic fields.

 

Besides the main campus in Wanchai, Béthanie, the Academy’s Landmark Heritage Campus in Pokfulam, houses educational facilities for the School of Film and Television.
