Full-time staff are eligible for Staff Development Funds which can be used for activities such as attending conferences, workshops and training programmes. Part-time academic staff who have been teaching at HKAPA for a long time may also be eligible. For specific details, please see section G2 of the Staff Handbook.

This funding is for arts projects. However, you could work alongside arts companies or artists applying for the grant by including a PaR component. Projects that would fall under the Cantonese Opera Development Fund, Film Development Fund, Intangible Cultural Heritage Funding Scheme and CreateSmart Initiative are not eligible.

  • Supports proposals and worthwhile initiatives of a larger scale or a longer time frame from individual artists as well as small and medium arts groups.

    • programme/content development
    • audience building
    • arts education

These grants are offered by UGC/RGC. Faculty would need to collaborate with academic staff at a UGC-funded institution as a Co-Principal Investigator.

  • This grant aims to provide opportunities for emerging artists to create and present artistic works and gain valuable professional experience that will enable them to further their careers.
  • “Emerging artist” is defined as someone who has completed a course of study within 5 years of the time of their application submission OR has started practising in their field of application for not more than three years when they submit their application.
  • The primary applicant must be a Hong Kong permanent resident or citizen.

Asia Culture Center (ACC) Residency

Residency at the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju, South Korea for research, creation and production of artworks around a particular theme.

Funding depends on the track but includes a living expenses stipend (min. ~$5000HKD/month), workspace, accommodation, airfare and roundtrip domestic travel to the ACC.

  • The current most relevant tracks are: Fellow (critical studies research), Theater (performing arts), Creators (interdisciplinary arts/technology), and Dialogue (critical studies research)
  • Creator applicants can apply as an individual or in a team of 2-4 participants
  • Durations are April-October for Fellows, August-October for Theatre and May-October for all other tracks

  • ACC cultural exchange projects that focus on process rather than production. Examples of process-focused activities are research, study and exploration.

Global Fellowship Program

A three-year fellowship that involves travelling to New York once a year. The fellowship is an opportunity to exchange ideas with leaders of arts organisations, and provides a platform to develop ideas and plans for projects.

  • Up to US$14,000 of which US$8,625 will be provided to cover the awardee’s three economy class return flights from Hong Kong to New York (one ticket per year), accommodation, transportation and subsistence allowance during the Congress period.

  • The fellowship supports local mid-career performing arts leaders to take part in the ISPA New York Congress and Seminar Day for 3 consecutive years to enhance their professional knowledge and strengthen their international network.
  • The Congress and Seminar Day take place every January, for around 4 days each year.

Funding for emerging artists that may springboard new projects.

  • This fellowship brings emerging artists from Hong Kong for a six-month residency at Yale University.
  • Selected fellows will receive project funding, housing, a basic living stipend, a peer mentor, an arts faculty mentor, domestic trips, and round-trip flight from Hong Kong to New Haven.

A summer residency for artists to focus on developing their practice and experimenting artistically.

This fellowship might be of interest to staff and students from the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts who specialise in visual art.

Funding includes travel, accommodation and living expenses, as well as material costs for art making, installation, exhibition and printing costs for publications of brochures and flyers.

  • The FAAM artist in residency programme aims to create a platform through which the artistic activities of invited artists provide various opportunities for the people of Fukuoka to appreciate culture by communicating with the artists and collaborating on their art-making.
  • Applicants must be a visual artist with sufficient experience in presenting their artwork/project, and should demonstrate their potential in their field.
