The School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts offers a dynamic range of production-related courses in performing and entertainment arts. From theatre to theme parks and live events, the School’s professionally focused programmes are designed to prepare students for exciting careers in entertainment and the cultural industries. In addition to its MFA, BFA, Diploma and Certificate Programmes in Set and Costume Design, Costume Technology, Property Making, Scenic Art, Lighting Design and Technology, Sound Design and Technology, Music Production, Stage & Event Management and Technical Direction; recognising today’s and tomorrow’s needs for top production crew by local and regional entertainment companies, the School also offers fast-track intensive courses.
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts and working under the supervision of Costume Shop Manager, the Costume Collection Coordinator is a member of the Costume Shop. The postholder is responsible for the effective management and maintenance of the Academy’s Costume Collection, supporting student designers, guest artists, and production teams across all Academy productions and collaborative projects. The role involves overseeing costume cataloguing and inventory systems, coordinating costume sourcing, lending, alterations, laundry, and storage, and supporting backstage wardrobe operations during rehearsals and performances. Working closely with costume, hair and make up teams, the Costume Collection Coordinator also contributes to production planning, supervises student wardrobe crews, ensures safe working practices and the upkeep of costume workshop facilities, and undertakes general duties as assigned.
Applicants should have:
(a) A recognised degree in Costume Design or Costume Technology, or a diploma supplemented by substantial knowledge and relevant professional experience in related fields;
(b) Skilled in theatrical costume sewing, costume fittings, and alterations, with sound knowledge of fabrics, materials, and sewing tools;
(c) Good understanding of theatrical costuming, costume history, and period styles;
(d) Knowledge of theatrical make-up and hair techniques, including related materials and tools;
(e) Experience in backstage dressing duties and production support;
(f) Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with barcode inventory systems (e.g., VLOOKUP) or the ability to learn quickly;
(g) Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (fluency in Putonghua would be an advantage);
(h) Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills, with supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership ability;
(i) Proactive, self-motivated, attention to detail and capable of working independently; and
(j) Ability to perform manual handling tasks.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement. A gratuity payment may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
