The School of Music at the Academy offers comprehensive full-time programmes, including Diploma, BMus, MMus, and a planned doctoral degree, alongside its highly successful Junior Music Programme – comparable to the ‘Junior Schools’ of other world-leading conservatoires. In keeping with its conservatoire status, the School’s philosophy is centred on performance and reflects the unique cultural mix of Hong Kong, with emphasis on both Western and Chinese traditions. The School comprises the Departments of Strings, Keyboard, Voice, Woodwind/Brass/Percussion (‘WBP’), Composition, Chinese Music, Academic Studies and Junior Music.
The main areas of responsibility are as follows:
(a) To be in charge of office management of the Junior Music Programme ("the Programme") and supervise administrative/clerical support staff.
(b) To be overall responsible for the operation of the Programme.
(c) To coordinate with teachers, students, other departments/schools within the Academy, and external bodies for matters and activities pertaining to the Programme.
(d) To be overall responsible for junior student administration functions, budgetary control, timetabling, part-time teachers’ appointments and payment.
(e) To be responsible for junior student admission, audition, registration and assessment.
(f) To coordinate among faculty, various departments/units and students for the production and publicity of the Programme’s rehearsals, performances, masterclasses, projects and the Open Day.
(g) To undertake any other duties as assigned by the Dean and the Junior Music Department Programme Leader.
Applicants should have:
(a) A recognised university degree or equivalent;
(b) Normally at least five years of relevant administrative experience, preferably in tertiary educational sectors and/or arts and cultural organisations;
(c) Knowledge of performing arts and music is preferable;
(d) High command of spoken and written English and Chinese, preferably proficiency in Putonghua;
(e) Strong organisational management, communication, interpersonal skills and flexibility;
(f) Positive attitude with ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and
(g) Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Forms, website management, and Chinese word processing.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement. A gratuity payment may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
