LECTURER (GENERAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH)

The General Education Department is an interdisciplinary, collaborative and dynamic academic unit within the Academy.  It offers compulsory liberal arts and language courses, as well as elective general education courses at undergraduate level.  It is one of the two academic departments under General Education and Research—the other being the Performing Arts Research Department, offering the MA programme in Performing Arts Studies.

The postholder will be required to teach, coordinate and develop core liberal arts courses and Academy electives such as Arts & Aesthetics, Contemporary Arts & Culture, Philosophical Perspectives, Innovation & Evolution, and other humanities and cultural studies subjects. Aside from collaboration with faculty across Schools and liaison with part-time teachers, the postholder will ensure high-quality course delivery and contribute to the development of innovative teaching and learning approaches within the context of performing arts in higher education.

Applicants should have:

(a) An earned postgraduate degree, preferably a doctorate, in a relevant discipline of humanities, cultural studies or performing arts studies; 
(b) Normally, a minimum of four years’ experience in teaching liberal arts/general education/performing arts studies courses of undergraduate/postgraduate level, or equivalent education/professional experience;
(c) Experience in programme development, course design, management and delivery;
(d) Knowledge of HKQF Generic Level Descriptors, outcomes-based education with experience in writing learning outcomes and developing assessment tools;
(e) Ability to develop undergraduate and postgraduate courses for in-person, online or in digital technology-supported delivery;
(f) Expertise/ specialisations/ research interest in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:
•    Digital culture, technology and the arts
•    Arts and wellbeing/ arts therapy
•    Sustainability in relation to the arts
•    Theatre and community arts
(g) Ability to effectively leverage and integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and learning technologies into teaching,  assessment and research; and
(h) A good command of both written and spoken English. Fluency in Chinese (including Putonghua and Cantonese) is an advantage.  

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT 
Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement.  A gratuity payment may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
