The Assistant Library Officer will report  to the Assistant Librarian I (Technical Services) and will assist in maintaining the Library’s electronic and serial collections, including preparing usage reports and user-guides, maintaining the Database A-Z List, and supporting periodical processing at the Library.  The postholder will also support  to the promotion of library resources and services by creating graphics and videos for use  on social media  platforms. In addition, the postholder will be required to perform regular and shift duties at the circulation counter of both libraries at  Wanchai and Bethanie campuses in the evenings,  at weekends and public holidays.

 

Applicants should:
(a) Have  a higher diploma or associate degree or above. Preference will be given to those who completed programmes related to Library and Information management or Design or Media Communication; OR
(b) Have at least 5 subjects at Grade E/Level 2 or above in the HKCEE/HKDSEE, including English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language AND a recognised certificate for library assistants with normally at least 2 years’ work experience;
(c) Have knowledge in using a library system and experience in maintaining print, media resources and serial collection;
(d) Have good command of spoken and written English and Chinese including Putonghua;
(e) Be creative, with a good sense in graphic design and video editing; and
(f) Have knowledge on video-editing and experience of using social media for promotion purposes.

 

Preference will be given to those who possess one or more of the following: 
(a) Previously worked in an academic library, or higher educational institution.
(b) Have experience using graphic design and video editing packages, e.g. Canva, Photoshop, iMovie, PowerDirect, VideoStudio.


TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement.  A gratuity payment may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
