The School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts offers a dynamic range of production-related courses in performing and entertainment arts. From theatre to theme parks and live events, the School’s professionally focused programmes are designed to prepare students for exciting careers in entertainment and the cultural industries. In addition to its MFA, BFA, Diploma and Certificate Programmes in Set and Costume Design, Costume Technology, Property Making, Scenic Art, Lighting Design and Technology, Sound Design and Technology, Music Production, Stage & Event Management and Technical Direction; recognising today’s and tomorrow’s needs for top production crew by local and regional entertainment companies, the School also offers fast-track intensive courses.

 

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts and working under the supervision of the Senior Lecturer (Scenic Art).  The main responsibilities are as follows:

(a) Maintain the safe, efficient and day-to-day operation of the Scenic Paint Shop, ensuring compliance with health, safety and workshop regulations. 
(b) Manage the upkeep, organisation and maintenance of scenic art materials, tools, equipment, storage areas and workshop facilities. 
(c) Monitor inventory levels, procure scenic materials and equipment, and maintain accurate records of stock, budgets and petty cash expenditure. 
(d) Support teaching, student projects and Academy productions by facilitating access to workshop spaces, materials and technical resources. 
(e) Provide practical guidance and supervision to students in the safe and effective use of scenic art facilities and production practices. 
(f) Coordinate waste management, recycling initiatives, venue maintenance and liaison with internal departments, contractors and external event venues as required. 
(g) Participate in Academy productions and events, including serving as Production Practice Supervisor for designated productions and undertaking other duties as assigned by supervisors.

 

Applicants should have:
(a) A relevant degree, diploma, and/or professional training / experience in Scenic Art or a related discipline;
(b) Normally 3 year's experience in scenic art related practice, preferably within theatre, performing arts, or live event production environment;
(c) Sound knowledge of scenic art techniques, materials, and practices;
(d) Strong planning, organising and communication skills;
(e) Excellent attention to detail and a strong visual aesthetic sense;
(f) Ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage multiple tasks effectively; and
(g) Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese, including Cantonese and Putonghua.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement.  A gratuity payment may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
