Admission Requirements for Diploma in Foundations Programmes
- General Admission Requirements (GAR)
Completion of senior secondary education; with either one of the following qualifications:
(a) Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination
- Level 2 or above in English Language Subject; and Chinese Language Subject; and
- Level 2 or above in any other three subjects ("Attained" result in Citizenship and Social Development subject or one Applied Learning subject is considered as fulfilling one HKDSE subject requirement)
(b) Diploma of Applied Education Programme (Former name: Diploma Yi Jin) or equivalent qualifications

(a) Recognised English Language Qualifications
Qualification/Examination Grade/Score International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test* An overall score of 5.0 or above Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (We do not accept MyBest score)* 45 or above in Internet-based Test (iBT) Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination Level 2 or above in the English Language subject National Joint College Entrance Examination (JEE/Gaokao) A score of 90 or above in the English Language subject * IELTS or TOEFL results submitted must be within a 2-year period from the date of the test to the date of submission of application for admissions.
(b) Recognised Chinese Language Qualifications (for admissions to the Diploma in Foundations Programmes with Chinese as the medium of instruction^)
Qualification/Examination Grade/Score Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination Level 2 or above in the Chinese Language subject National Joint College Entrance Examination (JEE/Gaokao) A score of 90 or above in the Chinese Language subject General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O-Level) Grade C or above in Chinese Language subject General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) Grade C/Grade 4 or above in Chinese Language subject International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Grade C/Grade 4 or above in Chinese – First Language subject # e.g. Diploma in Cantonese Opera Foundations, Diploma in Drama Foundations.
(c) Alternative Chinese Language Qualifications (only applicable to specified applicants)
Examination Grade/Score Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination - Applied Learning Chinese Language subject(for non-Chinese speaking students)
- Students who have learned Chinese Language for less than six years while receiving primary and secondary education; or
- Students who have learned Chinese Language for six years or more in schools, but have been taught an adapted and simpler Chinese Language curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in local schools
Not applicable to applicants for the Diploma in Cantonese Opera Foundations programme.
“Attained” result
The Academy reserves the right to accept language qualifications in conjunction with in-house proficiency tests.
- Programme Specific Requirements and Supporting Documents
The Academy selects applicants for admissions on the basis of the General Admissions Requirements (GAR) and Language Admissions Requirements specified for respective programmes as well as Programme Specific Admissions Requirements such as applicants’ talents, attainments, and relevant training in the chosen disciplines.
Applicants may be asked to attend an audition and/or an interview, or to submit a portfolio, or to sit an entry test, or a combination of these as deemed necessary by the Schools which offer the respective programmes.
